Court: US can block mad cow testing

There has not been much reaction to this split decision by the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit. The case is now probably going back to the lower court, where U.S. District Judge James Robinson had ruled in March 2007, that the USDA could not control mad cow tests because they are not a treatment for animals.

It would seem now that a different approach needs to be pursued before Judge Robinson.

Also; now more than ever, Congressional pressure needs to be applied; and if necessary, re-writing the 1913 law is certainly appropriate.

With all of the brilliant laws and profound discussions going on in Washington right now; it would possibly be appropriate to suggest that this 1913 law be rewritten for the 21st century.

Write to your Congressman (person), and to BOTH of your U.S. Senators. Ask them if they have read this 1913 law that the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit has just ruled on.

This current Congress just might want to explain to the court, what they actually meant when it was written in 1913.

From time to time, each of us must carefully evaluate who we vote for. We need to know who they are; who influences them; what their thinking process is all about; and then how they have actually voted on matters that we entrusted them to consider carefully when they vote FOR US. Carefully consider the background of John McCain; his family; and the legacy of service to this country for over 100 years. John McCain's father and grandfather were both four-star admirals in the U.S. Navy. He is a 1958 graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy. McCain had a 22-year military career as a pilot and officer in the Navy. Five of those years (1967-73) were spent in a Vietnamese prisoner of war camp after he was shot down over Hanoi during the Vietnam War. McCain left the Navy in 1981, was elected to Congress in 1982, and then was elected as U.S. senator from Arizona in 1986.

Carefully consider the background of Barack Obama; his family; and his contributions to benefit this nation. Barack Hussein Obama was born Aug. 4, 1961, in Honolulu, Hawaii. His father, Barack Obama, Sr., was born of Luo ethnicity in Nyanza Province, Kenya. He grew up herding goats with his own father, who was a domestic servant to the British. Although reared among Muslims, Obama, Sr., became an atheist at some point. Barack is a U.S. Senator from Illinois sworn in January 4, 2005

Also, I believe it is very valid to carefully consider who the people are that have had, and now have the ability to influence Barack Obama. He seems to be "changing" positions on-the-fly. This is probably because his glibness and oratorical skills cannot forever conceal any shallowness in the nature of his actual character and total lack of meaningful experience.

Examine, in detail, the very short history of his voting record in Congress. Examine any original legislation that he has presented for substance and merit - (Anything!).

Consider the influence of the thought process that his wife possesses. This is not a casual review of attitude or momentary thinking. Carefully consider the content, words and direction of the potential influence that is continuously a part of Barack Obama's life and thinking.

There is far too much rhetoric about "change" without true regard of what actually has occurred during the last eight years and how events have affected the course of actions to be taken, and then administrated by the current President. Combine those unusual pressures with the dynamics of the "miserable" performance of the current Congress during these last 8 years, and it is absolutely incumbent that a strong and principled President be chosen to lead the nation.

CHANGE! Yes we need CHANGE. Changes in congress. Serious changes in all areas of the current leadership in both houses of Congress.

THIS IS TOO SERIOUS TO IGNORE!

The exuberance and speaking skills cannot be the criteria that we use to select the next President. Much more substance is needed.

We each need to carefully examine the substance and the experience of every candidate we have the opportunity and duty to vote for.

An Interesting Development

Israeli Breakthrough in Solar Thermal Energy

An Israeli entrepreneur is harnessing the sun's energy in
an industrial park in the northern Negev, where he plans to refine the
technology and then replicate it in California's Mojave Desert.

Arnold Goldman was a dreamer who didn't give up on his
dream even when oil prices dropped and the State of California decided not
to renew its incentives for clean energy producers in the 1990's.

Goldman's Luz International company which he had built
in the 1980's, went bankrupt in 1991 as a result. But the dream didn't die,
and the UCLA and USC-educated scientist built BrightSource Energy Inc. and
Luz II instead.

This past April, the Israeli entrepreneur signed the
largest power-buying agreement in the history of solar power with Pacific
Gas & Electric.

A month later his clean-energy company raised $115
million from like-minded investors such as Google.org and BP Alternative
Energy, enabling him to build the world's first solar thermal energy field
at Rotem Industrial Park in the northern Negev.

Located between the southern cities of Arad and Dimona,
the site is the testing ground for five larger solar fields that Goldman
plans to build in California.

The field of 1,640 robotic mirrors, called heliostats,
looks a little like a mechanical rock concert in action when the sun rises
in the morning.

Each mirror is slightly larger than a ping pong table
and is controlled by a computer; the tables turn toward the sun as it moves
through the sky. The mirrors focus the sun's rays on the point of a 200-foot
tower where a water boiler is to produce high-pressure steam.

The system is designed to produce up to 900 megawatts
of clean, renewable energy for the State of California in the next decade,
enough to power 540,000 homes per year.

Declare WAR on the Energy and Food Cost Crisis!

I sent the following to Dr. Charles Boustany, my U.S. House Representative, and to both David Vitter and Mary Landrieu, my two U.S. Senators. I communicate with them frequently. I would imagine that after your reading the "In my Opinion" comments on this matter, you will have some thoughts also. In favor or not of my concept of this situation, you certainly recognize that your personal food and energy costs are being increasingly negatively affected.

I will look at your carefully considered comments, and I will share those that are well stated, in the comments area.

"We really need to declare WAR on this stupid Energy Crisis, and Food Cost Crisis."

"In writing to my personal U.S. House Representative member, and to each of my TWO U.S. Senators; I feel it is realistic to express extreme concern over their apparent inability to grasp the seriousness of, and what the "unintended" consequences are, when the representatives of the people (U.S. House of Representatives); and the two chosen representatives of each state (U.S. Senate); the place for serious contemplation of Bills submitted for confirmation and adoption from the U.S. House of Representatives; have utterly failed to protect the public from their ill considered actions.

Not doing ANYTHING would be less disastrous to every citizen of the USA, than the ill conceived collection of "legislation" that have thwarted this nation from becoming energy independent from the foreign sources and the wide subjugation to uncontrollable pricing speculation, and the political whims of foreign entities that do not care about the needs and best interests of the citizens of the USA.

The total disregard of the National Interests of the USA public, by not allowing the exploration and production of natural resources within our nation's area of control and protection, is at best labeled as being just uninformed. The truth is that this failure to be producing all of our domestic OIL needs is based on obstinate stupidity. Any and all areas that potentially can contribute to supplying our energy needs, and our independence from "foreign" supply, must begin now. We cannot undo the last 10 to 15 years of "stupidity".

There is ample capability to utilize our unprecedented and seemingly unfathomable supply of coal to feed the existing electrical generators, and the needs of our population that has amazingly continued to grow over the last 25 years.

There is an immediate need to start construction on Nuclear electrical energy production, and the immediate use of the vast storage facilities for the nuclear waste. These facilities have been studied, discussed and analyzed for over 25 years. For one quarter of a century, your predecessors, and your own current subcommittees have discussed extensively and arrogantly this matter; all the while exhibiting total lack of knowledge and concern for the country over this matter.

There have been obstacles and impediments and even threats to foreclose on any and virtually every plan to build petroleum refineries and pipelines for distribution of Oil and Gasoline and Gas products.

Then the environmental protection mentality; the “feel good” philosophies have become a gangrenous plague in the thought processes in Washington, and within the state governments.

The ill considered “Ethanol” mania is now coming home to roost. Each and every one of our member of Congress in Washington, individually and collectively, evidently have placed their thinking and analysis abilities into neutral.

These Congressional “leaders” have singlehandedly allowed the availability and thus the cost of basic feed stock, and food components, to put the nation at great risk. Surely someone could have seen that the rush to ethanol, and the lack of producing every drop of oil from within the USA, would lead to DISASTER.

This DISASTER is obviously real. Each of you in Congress are part of the “Stimulus Payment” program (as an example) to try to overcome the DISASTER that you created.

Drill for OIL. Change the environmental rules that cause the reduction of existing refining capability and capacities. Start funding with grants and loans the building of new and the enlarging of domestic petroleum refineries. STOP funding ANY new ethanol refineries. Start funding with grants and loans the building of new COAL fired electrical generation plants; also the retrofitting, where possible the OIL fired plants to, or back to using COAL, using the newest clean burning technologies. We need to declare WAR on this stupid Energy Crisis, and Food Cost Crisis.

Immediately change the farm regulations, and the practices and limitations that have discouraged increased production of feed stock grains and the food supply needs. This is an action that can virtually immediately solve the problem that Congress has created that is now so visibly apparent every day.

We can search the shoes of everyone at our airports in the name of National Security (?); but concerning the obvious need for National Security, our Congressional leadership, simply ignore the actual total energy needs of this nation."
